Undefeated KELLY “THE GHOST” PAVLIK AND BERNARD “THE EXECUTIONER” HOPKINS are scheduled to fight in a light heavyweight bout at Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall on October 18, 2008.
Pavlik is the pride of Youngstown, Ohio, he is an exciting undefeated blue-collar type fighter, he is a true workhorse in the ring.
What makes him exciting is his hard-working style and the no flashy or flamboyant ways about him, he is cut and dry when it comes to fighting, he just pushes you applying pressure, he breaks down his opponents and takes their will with his heavy hands and high volume.
Pavlik’s most notable win was stopping Jermain Taylor in the seventh round for the WBC, WBO, The Ring, and lineal middleweight titles.
He now goes up in weight for a special attraction fight against future hall of fame fighter and former reigning middleweight champion Bernard Hopkins.
At 43 years old, Hopkins is on the tail end of his career, he is coming off a defeat to undefeated Welshman Joe Calzaghe and this seems like the best opportunity for Pavlik to catch him.
Hopkins feels people are counting him out over his loss to Calzaghe and he wants to prove to the boxing world that even though he is in his 40s he is far from done and will upset Pavlik in the process.
This will be a huge win for either fighter, if Pavlik wins he will add a huge legend to his resume, and if Hopkins wins he will pull off one of the biggest upsets in boxing by taking out a highly favored young puncher in his prime.
Pavlik vs. Hopkins will air live on HBO pay per view. MORE INFORMATION AT HBO BOXING.
