Former boxer and title contender Gary Stretch who retired from the sport to pursue a movie and acting career in Hollywood, is now the key assistant to trainer Freddie Roach to help rebuild fellow Brit Amir Khan’s boxing career after his first career defeat.
Khan suffered a devastating first round KO loss to Breidis Prescott in September and fired his trainer Rubio and opted to go the United States to train under Roach.
Roach is best known for guiding the career of Manny Pacquiao who moves up to welterweight in December to take on Oscar De La Hoya in a David vs. Goliath match-up.
Stretch said Khan has been one of Pacquiao’s sparring partners and the sessions have been back and forth, one could only imagine the speed vs. speed gym wars between the two at the Wild Card.
Alongside Roach is Gary Stretch as the assistant, he is best known for fighting in the middleweight divisions and lost to WBO champion Chris Eubank in his first bid for a world title.
Stretch said that Khan needs to compose himself and work on his defense, in the interview Stretch said “Amir has the better of Manny on most days but if the fight went on more rounds Manny would be too experienced, too strong for Amir, but early 1 to 4 rounds Amir has his number.”
