The showdown between British favorite Ricky “The Hitman” Hatton and flamboyant Brooklyn boxer Paulie “Magic Man” Malignaggi is all set.
Both Main Event fighters made the light weltereight limit on Friday, Hatton tipping the scales at 140 on the dot, and Paulie coming in a pound under.
Hatton is looking to revive his career after his one and only defeated to Floyd Mayweather Jr, and he hired his former rivals father Floyd Sr. to do the job of training him, cutting ties with his longtime trainer since childhood Billy Graham.
Mayweather Sr. was brought into camp for his defensive styling, one of the main weaknesses of the former champions game was his lack of defense.
Malignaggi is the IBF light welterweight champion, and his only loss was to the Puerto Rican body puncher Miguel Cotto. He is a slick boxer with little punching power but his style will give Hatton problems because of his constant movement on the back foot.
This will be a good match up to see where Hatton stands, did he change his style under Floyd Sr. or will he resort to his brawling face first attacking ways against the slick boxing Brooklynite?
