Roy Jones Jr. was cut for the first time in his professional boxing career on November 8, 2008 against undefeated Welshman Joe Calzaghe and he still fought on.
Calzaghe who reigned supreme at the 168 pound division, moved up last April to challenge Bernard Hopkins at light heavyweight, he beat the legend and went on to face Roy Jones Jr.
Jones Jr. fresh off a huge win over Tito Trinidad welcomed the challenge and signed the contract to fight the reigning pound for pound king.
The cut occurred in round 7 and it impaired the American superstar’s vision but despite the nasty eye injury he refused to quit and fought until the final bell.
Calzaghe eventually out pointed and out hustled Jones Jr. who has seen better days.
After winning his first two fights in the United States and against huge American boxing legends Bernard Hopkins and Roy Jones Jr. the sky is the limit for the Pride of Wales, he could take on another fight in the USA and continue to make big money and grow his legacy or he could head back overseas and fight in-front of a massive hometown crowd in the UK.
