Austin boxer James Kirkland was handed over to federal authorities Tuesday to face a gun-possession charge, just two weeks before his next scheduled bout in Las Vegas.
Kirkland, 25, a rising star in boxing whose fights have been televised by HBO, has been scheduled to fight Michael Walker on May 2 in Las Vegas on the undercard of the Manny Pacquiao-Ricky Hatton fight.
