Like many before him, Carl Froch has discovered that winning a world title was not a direct route to fame and fortune, but should he make a successful first defence of his WBC super-middleweight title against Jermain Taylor in the United States tonight, he will at least move out of the shadow of the man who held his title before him, Joe Calzaghe.
Froch is the only Briton at present recognised as a world champion by the four main sanctioning bodies, but that was still not enough for any television station to pick up the rights to screen his first defence live.
