A Saturday morning press conference has been called to announce former five-division titleholder Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s return to boxing against lightweight champ Juan Manuel Marquez, according to the Lance Pugmire of the L.A. Times.
The fight will take place on July 18 in Las Vegas and will be fought at 144 pounds, nine pounds heavier than Marquez, a former titleholder at featherweight and junior lightweight, has ever fought.
Mayweather, who announced his retirement from boxing last summer, has held world titles in the junior lightweight (130 pounds), lightweight (135), junior welterweight (140), welterweight (147) and junior middleweight (154).
The press conference, arranged by Golden Boy Promotions (the promoter of Mayweather-Marquez) and HBO (the network that will televise the bout), will be held at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, where Ricky Hatton and Manny Pacquiao will fight Saturday night.(Source: The Ring Blog)
