Nacho Beristain, the legendary trainer of multiple Mexican boxing champions, including Juan Manuel Marquez who had given Manny Pacquiao two of his toughest fights to date, shared his thoughts with EPSN’s Spanish T.V show “Golpe a Golpe” (Blow by Blow) on the future possibility of a Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao match up, the upcoming Miguel Cotto vs. Manny Pacquiao mega bout, and trainer Freddie Roach.
When asked about a possible fight between Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao:
“It would be a difficult fight. But I keep thinking Pacquiao because he maintains a rhythm an Mayweather has a defensive style in which he backs up and goes through long intervals without throwing punches. I believe it would be a very close fight. If it were to go the full 12 rounds, because of Mayweathers defensive style, for my taste, I’d like to see Pacquiao win.”
Nacho on Pacquiao’s technique and his match up with Cotto:
“His left hand is like a missile, like a rocket, it has tremendous speed and his power is tremendous. The key to the fight is not only Pacquiao’s speed but is also the fact that he has been better with his technique,”
“He is a technical fighter now with speed and power, and that Pacquiao is very difficult to beat. If it was difficult before, imagine now, Cotto will be in a world of trouble when he steps in the ring with Manny, besides that, I don’t think he recovered from the beating Margarito gave him, I think Pacquiao will win this fight.”
Nacho also shares his thoughts on Freddie Roach:
“I think Pacquiao is lucky to have him in his corner, Freddie Roach is one of the best trainers in the world and he has a lot of knowledge and he has made Pacquiao a better fighter who used to have a lot of flaws in his style. Pacquiao used to jump when throwing punches and now he is doing great from a technical point of view and that is Freddie’s work,”
