I love the sport of boxing, been a fan for a long time and I respect the fighters for having the guts to step into the ring, but I do not respect those fanatics who become engrossed with a fighter, that they would even threaten you with violence.
These fans are not fans of the sport of boxing, they are fanboys who only root for one guy and they treat him like a God. Think the Raider Nation, yes they are loyal fans to their team, but they’re also some of the most extreme kind of NFL football fans.
In boxing the equivalent to the Raider Nation is the Pacquiao fanatics aka Pacboys.
I have all the respect in the world for Manny Pacquiao, but his fans make it hard to root for the man. Not all Pacquiao fans are like this, I have met some who are logical and actual boxing fans, but Pacboys are the worst.
Pacboys say things like “Manny Pacquiao is the greatest of all times!”, “He can destroy Mayweather Jr.”, “Mayweather is a coward”, “Pacman could even beat Duran”, “Those guys are all bums and no match for Manny” and other insulting remarks to put down other fighters while praising their own guy.
Fans like these are so biased and one sided they feel it’s OK to throw racist remarks, insults and belittle other fighters, but the moment something they deem negative is said bout their guy you are wrong for it while it’s perfectly fine for them to insult other fighters.
I believe a person is entitled to their own opinion as long as it’s respectable and in taste, they should not be insulted or degraded for it. If I disagree with you cool prove me wrong or debate with me in a mature, sane manner, but don’t treat me as a enemy or throw racial slurs at me.
You could say something so simple for example “I believe he will lose because he has no defense and he is to small”, when a fan boy reads that they see red, become angry and fury crosses their eyes and you become public enemy number #1.
This is just sports, and if people take it to the extreme by threatening others with violence or throwing racial insults I suggest you stop watching because you are too sensitive and emotional. Fanatics have no sense of reality or friendly rivalry.
This is why they either cry or enter a deep depression if their fighter loses or become extreme in their celebrations and treat their man like he is a God.
It’s just sports take a chill pill, relax and enjoy the fight.
