Now that Bob Arum’s Top Rank Promotions has sealed it’s mega bout at Dallas Cowboys Stadium between Manny Pacquiao and Joshua Clottey. Everyone is very excited to see the “typhoon of the pacific” stepping in the ring for 2010. This has left Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaeferwondering if not losing there credibility as a promoter. GBP insist that they also have a fight of their own at MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada on March 13th with Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. SOMEONE(still to be determined).
From TOP RANK PROMOTIONS: it is very clear that the Clottey/Pacquiao fight has already started to roll and it is not an easy fight for Pacquiao like what some fight fans think. Though the odds are simply higher for Pacquiao, this match is still highly anticipated if not the best fight for 2010. Joshua Clottey is one of the Top 10 great welterweights and has given Miguel Cotto a hard nut to crack from their last fight in June 2009.
From GOLDEN BOY PROMOTIONS: all the boxing hard core fans are still puzzled on “who’s the man?” that can stand a challenge against Floyd Mayweather Jr., or let me rephrase… “who’s the man?” that Floyd didn’t duck from the past but has given huge number of audience?
It’s certainly not Paulie Malignaggi, since most boxing hard core fans dub him as a boxer with “feather gloves” if not a floppy mouth..lol (imagine both fighters running around the ring). Nor Matthew Hatton since Richard Schaefer has already erased him earlier from the wish list . Of course, don’t even try mentioning names like Cotto, Antonio Margarito, Paul Williams or Sugar Shane Mosley, these names are still haunting Mayweather at night. lol.
My best pick, is Oscar De La Hoya Vs Mayweather Jr.. I have a few reasons as to why these two can still draw more fans:
1. GBP is on the brink of losing audiences because of the mess they just had with Pacquiao and Top Rank. This is the best way to reclaim credibility and PPV audiences. With Oscar De La Hoya’s draw and the split decision which left everyone arguing, this fight is still something that can draw attention if not huge. Imagine, OSCAR vs Mayweather II- THE WORLD AWAITS…..AGAIN.
2. Of all the great welterweights and middleweights alive..lol, Oscar De La Hoya is the only name that Floyd had no trouble sleeping at night. Lmao. Floyd has already proven that De La Hoya can’t pull the trigger with Floyd’s punch and run style. And, it’s never too late for Oscar to claim that he wants revenge against Maywether. Geez.
3. Last, they obviously broke the pay per view mark together. They can prolly do it again, who knows? Man I confess, I have paid dearly my hard earned money to watch the fight but I ended up falling asleep. LoL
I know that this may seem impossible with Oscar De La Hoya already retired, but who knows (please don’t flame me, I know that this sounds odd) how many fighters/athletes you’ve heard have proclaimed they have already retired and them came back for the love of the sport. lol
