Tonight was a great night for HBO and boxing. Yuriorkis Gamboa held onto his WBA featherweight title knocking out and humiliating Rogers Mtagwa in the 2nd round. Juan Manuel Lopez defeated Steven Luevano and won the WBO featherweight title by stopping Luevano in the 7th round.
Now that both fighters have gotten past their opponents we have the Yuriorkis Gamboa versus Juan Manuel Lopez mega fight to look forward to in 2010 it will be Cuba (Gamboa) Vs. Puerto Rico (Lopez).
Make sure to add Gamboa-Lopez to your 2010 boxing schedule of must see fights.
I am looking forward to this fight, as a die hard boxing fan this is one of those match ups that you can’t miss.
To the casual fan or the people who don’t really follow the sport of boxing closely they have no clue who Yuriorkis Gamboa or Juan Manuel Lopez are but to the boxing community these guys are well known top level champions.
The sport of boxing is alive and kicking with guys like this. The media has been saying boxing is dying and UFC fans and people who dislike the sport are saying boxing is dead, all because the mega fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao isn’t happening over steroids blood testing.
Well if these naysayers actually do the time to research boxing and follow it closer by catching the fights on ESPN, Fox Sports, Showtime, and HBO they would never say boxing is dying or lacks superstars, boxing just lacks exposure to the mainstream, fighters and superstars in the making should be given the opportunity to shine in the media.
If Bob Arum puts this featherweight unification bout between two of the sports most exciting undefeated fighters Gamboa and Lopez together, I would tell everyone I know to order this fight that’s how much I believe this fight will deliver.

I am an avid fan of boxing and video games. My first fight of memory was watching Prince Naseem Hamed destroy Kevin Kelly. I enjoy all aspects of the sport. My favorite current boxer is Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao. My favorite boxing match is Diego Corrales vs. Jose Luis Castillo 1. I love watching boxing on Pay-Per-View more than being there live because you can really enjoy and watch the action from the best view.
