Former junior-middleweight world champion Ronald “Winky” Wright has parted ways with Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions to sign with Bob Arum’s Top Rank Promotions in hope of getting a crack at middleweight champion Kelly “The Ghost” Pavlik later in the year.
Winky Wright, now 38 years old, and on the tail end of his boxing career was unhappy with his lack of activity during his time under Golden Boy Promotions so he decided to leave them and sign with Top Rank Promotions to land more fights and keep active.
Bob Arum plans on having Winky headline one of the “Top Rank Live” Fox Sports shows followed by a spot on the Miguel Cotto vs. Yuri Foreman undercard on June 12 in New York, and if Kelly Pavlik gets by Sergio Martinez and Winky wins his bouts, a Wright vs. Pavlik match can be made at the end of the year.
Top Rank’s next big fight promotion is an HBO Pay-Per-View fight between WBO welterweight champ Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao and African fighter Joshua Clottey of Ghana titled “The Event” at Dallas Cowboys stadium on March 13, 2010. Tickets for Pacquiao – Clottey “The Event” are still available and can be ordered through ticketmaster.com
