Live on Saturday March 27 from Las Vegas, Nevada at The Joint in the Hard Rock Hotel, HBO’s Boxing After Dark presents a double header; Marcos Rene Maidana vs. Victor Cayo in the main event for an interim junior welterweight belt and Ali Funeka vs. Joan Guzman rematch for the IBF lightweight title.
In June 27, 2009, Marcos “Chino” Maidana (27-1-26 KOs) made a name for himself after forcing rising boxing star Victor Ortiz to quick in the 6th round of their 12-round bout at the Staples Center in Downtown, Los Angeles.
Maidana is from Argentina but was given the nickname “Chino” by a friend because he looked Chinese.
On March 27, Maidana will square off against unbeaten Dominican boxer Victor Manuel Cayo (24-0-16 KOs) both will make their Las Vegas debut on Saturday night. The hard hitting knockout artist Marcos Maidana will be a huge step up in competition for the untested Cayo. For Maidana a win over Cayo moves him one step closer to a WBA title shot with England’s Amir Khan who is trained by Manny Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach.
The co-feature bout will be a rematch for the vacant IBF lightweight title between South African Ali Funeka (30-2-3-25 KOs) and Joan Guzman (29-0-1 17 KOs) of Dominican Republic. Their first fight ended in a controversial draw, many who watched the fight felt Funeka was controlling the entire fight and did enough to hand the undefeated Guzman his first loss and win the Vacant IBF title.
Watch Maidana vs. Cayo and Funeka vs. Guzman rematch, live on HBO at 10:30 PM ET/PT.
