David Haye retained his WBA heavyweight title on April 3, 2010 when he stopped John Ruiz in the 9th round at the MEN Arena in Manchester, England.
Haye started off strong with a vicious straight right knock down that was reminiscent of a Manny Pacquiao straight punch, sending John Ruiz flying down to the canvas.
Haye dropped Ruiz several times throughout the fight and getting away with hitting Ruiz in the back of the head numerous times, the referee Guillermo Perez Pineda somehow didn’t see the rabbit shots or just simply ignored them.
Ruiz put on a valiant effort, showing no quit Ruiz kept moving forward, but he couldn’t land anything significant on David Haye and down on the scored cards due to the multiple knockdowns, Ruiz trainer Miguel Diaz saw enough and threw in the towel in the 9th round.
Shortly after the fight Haye said he would like to take on both Klitschko brothers, Vitali and Wladimir to unify the heavyweight titles.
