Edwin Valero, the promising young 28-year old Venezuelan boxer who has been in constant trouble the past couple of weeks is now the key suspect in the death of his 24-year-old wife Jennifer Carolina Viera De Valero.
Valero, known for his explosive style and knockout power, was touted as the next Manny Pacquaio and a possible future opponent for Pacquiao, but it appears Valero’s boxing career will be over for good.
The Venezuelan police say they have detained WBC lightweight champion Edwin Valero on suspicion of murdering his young wife at a hotel. Prior to the murder of his wife he was arrested for beating her up so bad she had a collapsed lung, but the charges were later dropped claiming she hurt herself by falling down the stairs.
Federal Police Chief Wilmer Flores said Valero was arrested after the police found the dead body of his wife in a Valencia hotel.
According to Flores, Edwin Valero left the hotel room early morning on Sunday and allegedly told the hotel’s security personnel that he had killed Viera.
Edwin Valero’s promoter Bob Arum hasn’t released a statement on the situation yet.
