The Decline of Boxing

April 18, 2010 By NB News Leave a Comment

By Peter Tamblyn

To all who enjoy watching the sport of boxing.

In days gone by, title fights and other important fights were broadcast on free to air Television.

Many fight fans would record the fight so that they and their friends could watch it again.

After a title fight the local news media would allocate a page to pictures and a blow by blow assessment of the fight which was read by people as they traveled to work.

At work there were discussions amongst most in the office about the fight, but these days it is rare to hear any comment made about a fight, even if it was a world title fight.

This change has come about over the past 10 years due to a decision that people should pay to watch a bout (Pay-per-view).

Promoters need to review the direction that boxing has taken if they want to see this sport regain a large following and thrive again.
