Things got heated during the New York press conference (watch the video below) to announce the upcoming May 15, SHINE fight promotions Pay-per-view “Worlds Collide” pitting former boxing champion Ricardo Mayorga against former UFC fighter Din Thomas.
Ricardo Mayorga started the press-conference off in vintage Mayorga style, tons of trash talk in Spanish that was interpreted in English through his translator. The two got into a back and forth war of words and soon it turn physical with Thomas shoving Mayorga and Mayorga back handing Thomas later in the presser.
The May 15 PPV event titled Worlds Collide “Mayorga vs. Thomas” is marketed as a type of Boxer vs. MMA fighter match-up. Ricardo Mayorga’s last fight was a KO loss to Sugar Shane Mosley in 2008. This will be Ricardo Mayorga’s MMA debut. Many people believe Mayorga’s move to MMA is due to him no longer being relevant in the talent rich welterweight division of boxing that includes Manny Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather Jr, Andre Berto, Antonio Margarito and Paul Williams.
Mayorga joins the list of former boxers going into MMA such as James Toney, Ray Mercer, Eric ” ButterBean” Esch, and Jeremy Williams.
