According to an article by Boxingscene.com, former Manny Pacquiao foe and Mexican legend Juan Manuel Marquez claims that the fiery Filipino southpaw wants no part of him.
“I told Richard, I want to fight Pacquiao again but Pacquiao he doesn’t want it. He doesn’t want to fight me again,” Marquez told BoxingScene.com
Marquez is so desperate for a third match with Pacquiao he chased him all the way to the Philippines with a contract following their second fight in which Manny won a split-decision over Marquez. Some would say he has an obsession with the Filipino champ.
Even after Pacquiao went on to move up in weight to challenge bigger and stronger fighters, Marquez feels the Pacman is avoiding a rubber-match with him. When Juan Manuel went up to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr., he was thinking ahead to a future Pacquiao fight.
“Maybe we could fight at 140 or maybe 141, 142. I know Pacquiao. I know how to fight Pacquiao. I know his style. I know how Pacquiao’s style is and I’m always one step ahead of him [when we fight]. I think 70% [the fight won’t happen]. Pacquiao is scared of me because he knows who won the fight. Why doesn’t he want to fight me?,” Marquez told BoxingScene.
We may never see a trilogy between Pacquiao and Marquez, but it looks more likely then a Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao super-fight at the moment.
Juan Manuel Marquez is scheduled to take on Juan Diaz in a rematch on HBO pay-per-view on July 31, 2010 at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.
