Saturday the 8th of May 2010, in Mexico, Antonio Margarito will face Robert “The Threat” Garcia, on a boxing card dubbed “Latin Fury” in a town called Aquascalientes, to mean, Hot Waters or Warm Waters depending on who you ask. Either way “The Threat” is gonna be in Hot-Water. It doesn’t take much research to determine that “The Threat” doesn’t exist for Maragrito. Isn’t Bob Arum smart?
Antonio “The Tijuana Tornado” Margarito, is just going to beat the mess out of Robert Garcia and he would do it with or without the cast wraps. I typically take a close look at the last five fights that each opponent has had to determine the level of competition and to determine if the fighter is Top-Shelf fighting Top-Shelf, if you know what I mean. I don’t know if Margarito is Top-Shelf anymore or if he ever was. It’s really hard to tell with Margarito because his dominance appeared so real and then Naazim Richardson discovers, by sheer accident, that Margarito has Plaster of Paris setting up in his wraps just before his fight with Shane Mosley. It kinda makes you wonder how long it was going on.
But nonetheless Margarita has to be better than “La Amenaza”, he just has to be and here’s why. Garcia’s last fights were wins against Jose Medina 15-17-0, Santiago Icabalceta 6-1-4, Wilmer Hernandez 5-1-0, Humberto Aranda 37-15, Freddy Hernandez 23-1-0, and I used a sixth fight because the fight with Freddy Hernandez was a No Contest due to head butt so the fight didn’t go on. I went 6 deep in my research to get Vance Garvey 7-26-5. Do see why I say Bob Arum is smart, yes because “The Threat” is no threat to Margarito and a big fight between Manny and Antonio, two of Bob’s fighters.
So, it goes like this between Margarita and Garcia, I hit you, you hit me, I hit you, you hit me, I hit you, you hit me, I hit you, you hit me, I hit you, you hit me, until the fight Fury is over, there’s a little blood and Margarito looks real good and declares “I’m Back!”, and so does Bob Arum declare that Tony is back and ready for a big fight, but you’ll have to ask yourself, did I just witness two Top-Shelf fighters going at it or did I just see two fighters going at it, most likely the latter being the case, just two guys going at it.
Margarito has a long road ahead in his quest to erase his now poor public image and it won’t be done on Saturday. Tony has to erase his image in the minds of the American boxing fans. The Mexican fans are proud, loyal and supporting people and they just don’t except that he cheated, although it appears obvious to most
Americans.
I knew this day would come, it has been widely anticipated by many boxing fans and we’ve all wondered who the fighter would be that would threaten and challenge the Tornado’s comeback, his name is Robert Garcia and we can all rest easy because he is NO THREAT.
