On Saturday night, May 8, 2010, in Mexico, Antonio Margarito won a 10-round decision over Roberto Garcia. This was Margarito’s first fight back since being suspended from fighting in the United States because of an illegal substance found in his hand wraps before his fight with Shane Mosley in 2009.
Margarito is looking to fight Filipino phenom, Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao, and maybe former foe, current middleweight champion Sergio Martinez who Margarito stopped in 2000 handing Martinez his very first loss.
Manny Pacquiao and Antonio Margarito are both promoted by Bob Arum and Top Rank, so making a fight between the two fighters would be preferred for Arum.
Bob Arum mentioned prior to Pacquiao’s March 13, HBO PPV fight in Dallas, Texas against Joshua Clottey that Antonio Margarito could be a possible opponent for Manny Pacquiao if Floyd Mayweather Jr. doesn’t ease up on his drug testing demands, and the fight would be held at the Cowboys Stadium where Pacquiao drew over 50,000 fans.
If Pacquiao vs. Mayweather doesn’t get made, the boxing fans may have to settle for Pacquiao vs. Margarito later in the year.
