James “Lights Out” Toney could be in for a rude awakening when he steps into the octagon with ex- two division UFC champ, Randy “The Natural” Couture, one of the sports most decorated and experienced fighters.
Equipped with only a boxing background, Toney will be susceptible to take downs and submissions from Randy Couture a former top collegiate wrestler and Olympic alternate.
Dana White, while promoting his UFC 114 “Rampage Jackson vs. Rashad Evans” show this week told US radio show host, Dan Patrick, that top level boxers like Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao would lose in MMA, and in an article by Ray Hui, he feels the same way about James Toney.
Although both fighters are in their 40’s, Randy Couture is still competitive in MMA while James Toney hasn’t been a top contender in boxing for a long time. The match-up will probably be promoted as an MMA vs. Boxing fight.
Randy Couture vs. James Toney will be at heavyweight for UFC 118 on August 28, 2010 in Boston, Mass. The event will be held the same month Randy Couture’s feature film, the Expendables starring Sylvester Stallone hits theaters, giving both the movie and the UFC event extra publicity.
