Juan Manuel Marquez and Juan Diaz face off (AP Photo/Mark J. Terrill)
Just hours before the Floyd Mayweather vs. Shane Mosley mega fight, Golden Boy Promotions held a press conference on Saturday May 1, at MGM Grand to formally announce that WBA lightweight champ Juan Manuel Marquez (50-5-1, 37 KOs) and Juan “Baby Bull” Diaz (35-3, 17 KOs) are set off to fight again in a rematch that could mimic their 2009 fight of the year.
Juan Diaz is coming off a loss to Paulie Malignaggi and Juan Manuel Marquez will be moving back down to lightweight after fighting way above his weight class when he took on Floyd Mayweather Jr. at welterweight and lost by decision.
Marquez also showed interest in a rubber-match with Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao, but he believes the pound-for-pound king doesn’t want to face him again. Pacquiao and Marquez fought to a draw in their first meeting, and in the second one Pacquiao won a split decision victory taking home the WBC super-featherweight belt.
The fight will take place on July 31, 2010 at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas and broadcast on HBO Pay-Per-View. The Marquez vs. Diaz rematch ticket prices will be modestly priced from $50-350 a ticket.
