Mexican featherweights Israel Vazquez v. Rafael Marquez have already fought three times in three memorable crowd pleasing “Fight of the Year” fights, and the two will square up again once and for all on Showtime, Saturday, May 22, 2010 at the Staples Center in LA.
Rafael (38-5, 34 KO’s) won their first fight after Israel (44-4, 32 KO’s) retired in the corner after round seven because of difficulties breathing from a broken nose. Vazquez went on to win their next two fights, the second match Israel stopped Rafael in the sixth round, and in the third fight he beat Marquez by decision in a 12-round war.
Before the main event Showtime will air a special co-feature title fight between undefeated bantamweights Yonnhy Perez (20-0, 14 Ko’s) and Abner Mares (19-0, 13 KO’s) for Yonnhy’s IBF Title.
