Andre Ward’s first defense of his WBA super middleweight title was a success on Saturday night June 19 when he won a 12-round unanimous decision over challenger Allan Green on Showtime’s Super Six World Boxing Classic, Group Stage 2.
The Oakland, California fighter won the fight mainly from out muscling and smothering Green on the ropes and tying up in the middle of the ring preventing Green from throwing any punches.
Ward fought a smart fight by neutralizing Green from being able to throw his power shots by using inside boxing and holding Green with one arm and hitting him inside with another.
Although Green was the older fighter at 33-years-old, Andre Ward, 26, fought like the more mature experienced fighter in the ring with his dirty boxing and inside rough house tactics.
Green talked alot coming into this fight but he wasn’t able to back it up in the fight, Ward showed that his win over Mikkel Kessler wasn’t a fluke.
Andre Ward automatically secures a spot in the semi-finals of the Super Six tournament but still has another fight in Group Stage 3.
Andre Ward’s next opponent will be Andre Dirrell in the next stage of the Super Six World Boxing Classic.
