HBO boxing is back on Saturday, June 5, 2010 with a great double header, headlined by a WBA Jr. Middleweight title fight between Yuri Foreman and Miguel Cotto. The boxing card is significant because it will be the first boxing match at Yankees stadium since the Muhammad Ali vs. Ken Norton fight and it will feature the first Jewish champion from Israel, Yuri Foreman, in the main event.
The first fight up will be a co-feature Jr. Middleweight attraction between Armenian-American Vanes Martirosyan (27-0, 17 KOs) and Mean Joe Greene (22-0, 14 KOs). Both Green and Vanes Martirosyan are undefeated and considered top prospects in the sport. Vanes is trained by Freddie Roach, who is famous for guiding Manny Pacquiao to legendary status.
In the main event former Jr. welterweight and welterweight champion Miguel Cotto will move up in weight to challenge WBA Jr. Middleweight champion Yuri Foreman for his belt. Foreman is the first Israeli boxing champion and the only current Jewish boxing champion today. Cotto is looking to prove that he still has what it takes to be a champion, and Foreman is looking to make a name for himself on June 5th by beating a legend in Miguel Cotto.
Cotto vs. Foreman will headline “Stadium Slugfest” — the inaugural brawl at New York Yankee Stadium, Saturday, June 5. It will be televised live on HBO World Championship Boxing, beginning at 10:15 p.m. ET / 7:15 p.m. PT.
