Floyd “Money” Mayweather won the ESPN Espy award for “Best Fighter” of 2010, but maybe Floyd should have tied for “Best Ducker” of 2010 with David Haye, since both guys are ducking big fights, Floyd with Pacquiao and Haye with the Klitschko bros.
I wonder if Floyd Mayweather cares that the media and public are calling him a coward scared to fight Pacquiao. If I was a Floyd Mayweather, it would only make me hungrier to fight Manny Pacquiao to prove the critics wrong showing them that I can actually beat a prime feared fighter and at the end of the day collect the biggest paycheck in the history of boxing. If I had Floyd Mayweather’s talent I would love to challenge Manny Pacquiao and test myself, that’s what fighters do, they live for the challenge.
But Mayweather’s mentality is different than other fighters. He is insecure, and he is the type of person you don’t want to have in the power position calling shots because it’s either his way or the highway and he doesn’t give a crap about the fans and doesn’t give in to ultimatums either because he likes to feel superior.
When Oscar De La Hoya was the big money maker in boxing he never did what Floyd Mayweather is doing now. Oscar never made things difficult, Oscar always fought the best fighters out there he never wanted an easy fight. Sure, Oscar lost the majority of his biggest fights but at least he fought the best and made the biggest fights happen.
ESPN’s Pardon the Interruption and Around the Horn went in on Floyd Mayweather Jr., basically, they mentioned that Mayweather prides himself in being undefeated and called him a coward if he doesn’t fight Pacquiao because Manny Pacquiao is a serious threat to his undefeated record. I have to agree, it seems if Floyd doesn’t take this fight he is showing his diva ways and really showing that he is scared to lose.
