While Floyd Mayweather Jr. is vacationing in Puerto Rico and possibly taking a couple of years off from the sport of boxing, Bob Arum, Manny Pacquiao’s promoter, is not not going to wait around much longer for Floyd Mayweather Jr. to accept a fight with the Pacman, so, he has decided to put Manny Pacquiao in against the Tijuana Tornada, Antonio Margarito.
Bob Arum told Kevin Iole of Yahoo Sports, that Manny Pacquiao will fight Antonio Margarito for the vacant WBC 154 pound title. Margarito, despite the controversy surrounding his illegal handwraps before the Shane Mosley fight, is still one of the most dangerous fighters in boxing today and his size and pressure fighting alone is a real threat to the smaller Filipino fighter.
Arum decided to make this fight over a Miguel Cotto rematch because he felt nobody would buy a Cotto vs. Pacquiao rematch yet and Antonio Margarito vs. Manny Pacquiao would be an all action fight that the fans would enjoy because both fighters throw a lot of punches and never back down.
Margarito vs. Pacquiao will probably happen in Mexico if Margarito doesn’t get a boxing license in Las Vegas, Nevada.
