Tonight on Showtime, WBO featherweight champion Juan Manuel Lopez (28-0, 25 KOs) of Caguas, Puerto Rico will defend his title against Filipino challenger Bernabe Concepcion (30-2-1, 17 KOs) on Saturday July 10 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Juan Manuel Lopez is becoming Puerto Rico’s brightest boxing star following in the steps of Felix “Tito” Trinidad and Miguel Cotto. If Lopez beats Concepcion it brings him closer to a showdown with Cuban gold medalist, Yuriorkis Gamboa.
Concepcion is only 22-years old and trains out of the Wild Card Boxing club with Freddie Roach and Buboy Fernandez, the same gym that fellow Filipino boxer, Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao calls home. Manny Pacquiao has nothing but praise for Concepcion and believes he can be a future champion in boxing.
As a co-feature,The Filipino Flash, Nonito Donaire (23-1, 15 KOs), takes on tough 21-year old Mexican knock-out artist, Hernan “Tyson” Marquez (27-1, 20 KOs) on the same card.
Donaire is famous for his one punch knock-out of Armenian power puncher Vic “Raging Bull” Darchinyan.
Marquez last fight against Filipino fly weight Richie Mepranum in March was also his first loss. For Hernan Marquez he feels a win over Donaire will make him a star in Mexico.
