The Fighter, directed by David O. Russell is a movie based on the life of boxer “Irish” Micky Ward (famous for his explosive trilogy with the late Arturo “Thunder” Gatti), played by Mark Wahlberg and his drug addicted half brother Dickie Eklund, who helps train him to a title shot, played by Christian Bale.
Wahlberg, who knows Micky Ward personally is a long time boxing fan, and friend of pound-for-pound champion, Manny Pacquiao, held onto this movie for a long time before finally getting it made. From the trailer alone the film looks promising and seeing the physical transformation by Christian Bale, shows the dedication he put into his role of Dickie Eklund.
For those who are familiar with Micky Ward and his story, they know how inspirational it is. The Fighter hits theaters December of 2010, in time for Christmas.
