Romanian boxing champion Lucian Bute, who now resides in Montreal, Canada, will defend his IBF super middleweight title against American challenger Jesse Brinkley, of the reality TV series “The Contender”, tonight Friday, Oct. 15, 2010.
Bute is a huge draw in Montreal, and it has been reported by his promoter Jean Bedard that his fight with Brinkley at the Bell Centre has sold more than 12,000 tickets. If Bute gets by Brinkley there is a possible superfight match up with Kelly Pavlik looming at a catchweight of 166 pounds. Kelly Pavlik is fighting Brian Vera on the Manny Pacquiao vs. Antonio Margarito undercard November 13 at the new Dallas Cowboys stadium in Texas.
On the undercard of Bute vs. Brinkley is a 10-round light heavyweight showdown between Adrian Diaconu and Omar Sheika.
