The hall of fame trainer of Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao told a group of media during the Amir Khan vs. Marcos Maidana press event on Monday that if it was up to him Manny’s next opponent would be the slick middleweight champ from Argentina Sergio Martinez.
Freddie Roach dismissed a fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. from happening anytime soon mainly because of all the legal problems Floyd has at the moment.
The fight between Manny Pacquiao and Sergio Martinez probably won’t happen because Sergio Martinez is too big for Manny and Manny already said he will not fight past at over 150-pounds because he felt the punches from the much bigger Antonio Margarito.
If a Martinez vs. Pacquiao fight were to realistically happen it would have to be at 154-pounds if they made the fight at 155 for the middleweight title, it would hurt Manny Pacquiao’s legacy, since he’s already had two title fights at catchweight. Many boxing fans would consider it cheating history and want Manny just to stay at 147-pounds the welterweight division instead of fighting at catchweights for titles.
