A look into the future. A post Mosley vs. Pacquiao scenario…
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA – May 8, 2011, Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao just got done with one of the toughest fights of his career against Shane Mosley a man who many boxing fans believed was an easy fight. Fans and boxing writers were calling for a boycott of Pacquiao vs. Mosley stating that Shane Mosley was too old and washed up for the Filipino fighter, but the 40-year-old Mosley proved the naysayers wrong in what many are calling the 2011 “Fight of the Year” by knocking Manny Pacquiao down twice and wobbling the Pacman in the early rounds. The Pacman dug deep and was able to rally back and take over the fight starting in the 5th round to win a close unanimous decision. After the fight, both fighters looked like they ran head on into a Mack truck. One thing was clear, Manny has slowed down and shown vulnerability, he didn’t have the speed he once had and was showing fatigue for the first time in his career, all of the tough fights and punishment he took through out the years has finally caught up to him.
During the post fight press-conference Pacquiao said Mosley was a true warrior and he hit him harder than Antonio Margarito. Mosley congratulated Manny and told everyone in the media room he was the real deal and it was an honor to get in the ring with him. Promoter Bob Arum told the media Manny would need a 6 month rest to let his body heal before talking about his next fight. A member of Floyd Mayweather’s camp, called out Manny Pacquiao, saying the Filipino was ducking the undefeated champion. Mayweather’s team member grabbed the microphone and said Floyd just called me and said “make that fight happen, if Manny has the balls to step into the ring with him.” In a shocking twist that had everyone in the media room in awe, the undefeated boxer from Grand Rapids, Michigan himself showed up, Floyd came out of his long extended vacation and grabbed the microphone from his team member, and told Manny and Bob Arum to make the fight happen. Mayweather said he was even willing to agree to the 14-day cutoff date with the blood testing, but only if the fight gets made immediately for August 2011.
Freddie Roach grabbed the microphone and told Floyd Mayweather that he was a coward and only wanted to fight Manny now because he saw him take a beating in the Mosley fight and to demand Manny to fight so soon after back to back grueling fights with Margarito and Mosley was a weak move. A pissed off Bob Arum called security and as the security was escorting Floyd Mayweather, Floyd was yelling out “See I told y’all Pacquiao was yellow, he never wanted to fight me in the first place, they always avoiding me, they feeding him my leftovers…. told y’all Pacquiao was a joke!, No one can beat me! 41 and 0!”
The post-fight presser was cut short because both Mosley and Pacquiao had to be rushed to the hospital for precautionary medical check-ups.
