The Filipino Flash Nonito Donaire, 28,(24-1-2, 16KOs) headlines the Top Rank “In Harm’s Way” Pay-per-view card on December 4, 2010 against Ukraine’s Wladimir Sidorenko, 34, (22-2-2, 7KOs).
The Top Rank Pay-per-view was originally headlined by the son of Mexican boxing legend Julio Cesar Chavez, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., but due to Chavez Jr. catching the flu just days before the fight, he was advised to pull out of the fight by Freddie Roach and his conditioning trainer Alex Ariza because he wasn’t at 100 percent.
Donaire vs. Sidorenko was bumped to the Main Event, and the co-feature will be a WBC lightweight title showdown between the champion Humberto Soto(53-7-2, 32KOs) of Mexico versus Maywood, California’s Urbano Antillon (28-1, 20KOs). Soto is looking to knockout Antillon in hopes of landing a big fight against Brandon Rios in 2011.
Bob Arum of Top Rank Promotions said Nonito Donaire is the second best Filipino fighter right under Manny Pacquiao, and should Donaire defeat Sidorenko on Saturday night, he has a title shot lined up with Mexico’s WBC & WBO bantamweight champ Fernando Montiel for February 19, 2011 on HBO.
