The saying goes it takes a big man to apologize, and it seems Oscar De La Hoya for boxing’s sake is finally trying to make amends with his former promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank, the man who made Oscar a star.
The Golden Boy vs. Top Rank feud was an on going one, mainly swirling around Filipino boxing sensation Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao and continuing on and off for several years. They would break up then make up and break up again like a young teenage couple. Arum is a legendary promoter who has been in the boxing game for decades and felt disrespected by Oscar De La Hoya and Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Promotions from the lack of respect they showed him and the negative comments made towards his fighter and dear friend Manny Pacquiao.
Oscar made a step towards the right direction today when he Tweeted from his Twitter account an apology to his former boxing promoter and wished him a happy birthday, Arum turned 79-years-old on December 8, 2011.
From the Golden Boy Oscar De La Hoya’s Official Twitter account:
Hello everyone,I am writing these words with great sincerity.Bob arum first of all happy b day and second I want to apologize for anything
That I have said.let’s somehow put this behind us and make fights let’s show the world why boxing is the best sport
Bob arum from Oscar I am sorry now let’s work together and take the world by storm, let’s go on a strong run of fights.
If Oscar really meant what he said, then Bob Arum should be receiving a phone call from Oscar De La Hoya anytime now. Hopefully we can see a Floyd Mayweather Jr. or Juan Manuel Marquez vs. Pacquiao fight instead of a Shane Mosley vs. Pacquiao.
