HBO “Boxing After Dark” presents a bantamweight title fight between WBC and WBO champion Fernando Montiel of Mexico vs Filipino American challenger Nonito Donaire.
Donaire vs. Montiel is a fight that reminds us of the classic Philippines vs. Mexico boxing rivalry, and many boxing experts are wondering if Nonito Donaire has what it takes to follow Manny Pacquiao as the next great champion of Filipino decent. The bettors believe so, by making Donaire (25-1, 17 KOs) the 3-1 betting favorite over the champion Montiel (44-2-2, 34 KOs).
Also on the HBO card, is a welterweight rematch between undefeated Mike Jones (23-0, 18 KOs) and Jesus Soto-Karass (24-5-3, 16 KO’s). The two first met on the undercard of Manny Pacquiao vs. Antonio Margarito, and the outcome of the fight had people split with many boxing fans believing that Mike Jones didn’t deserve the victory and Soto-Karass was robbed.
