WBA Junior Middleweight champion Miguel Cotto successfully defended his title on Saturday, March 12th at the MGM Grand when he stopped wild trash talker Ricardo Mayorga in the 12th and final round of the championship fight.
Cotto was winning the fight comfortably by avoiding Mayorga’s barrage of wild punches and controlling the tempo of the fight with his left jab and distance.
The only knockdown happened in the 12th round when both fighters exchanged punches and Cotto landed a left hook hurting Mayorga and sending him down to the canvas on one knee, Mayorga held his left hand in pain and got up, after taking a stiff jab to the chin, Mayorga signaled the referee to stop the fight because he couldn’t make a fist with his left hand.
