A Lenten Reflection By Reni M. Valenzuela
Boxing most celebrated heavyweight champion has Parkinson’s disease. He has not been able to control and move his faculties right and can hardly utter a sentence for quite a number of years now due to his lingering illness. Muhammad Ali used to shout it out loud to the world over and over again, “I am the greatest!”
No he is not! There is only One who is the greatest and He is God Almighty. He makes the world go round. He directs histories and destinies of individuals and nations.
God’s every act is staggering from day one that He set foot on the planet and from everlasting to everlasting. He neither falters nor wobbles orchestrating the orbits and stars in space since the beginning of time and His movements never go wrong. God Almighty is steadfast. All of creation is at His command and life is in His hands.
The Beatles was a huge international sensation from Great Britain that jolted every place wherever they landed in a scale no lower than intensity seven. Each of their big hit concerts is usually preceded by strong after-shocks and tsunami waves of madness among the youngsters.
At the height of the Beatles’ fame and fortune during the late sixties, John Lennon bragged in an interview after a jam packed show, “We are more popular than Christ!”
No they are not! Soon after he made that pronouncement, the Beatles disbanded as a group.
Lennon has been in the grave for three decades now since 1980 when he was shot by an obscure assassin’s bullet for a still “mysterious” reason, exactly the same year that the “great” Muhammad Ali started showing signs of being afflicted with Parkinson’s disease as his medical records would show.
The “popular” John Lennon has long been gone and forgotten. But Jesus Christ stays forever known and alive and continues to impact millions of lives to this day since the time He resurrected from the dead to ascend back to Heaven.
Christ perseveres to make Himself real to men and women of every race and nationality from generation to generation for no one but Him alone can save the world and transform every human being to be truly great and become immortal in every way.
To Ali: Who then is the greatest? To Lennon: Who can be more popular? But to whom it may concern?: Who do you trust for salvation?
