DiBella Entertainment, in association with Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions presents “East-West Showdown: Andre Berto vs. Victor Ortiz” on HBO.
WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto is undefeated with a record of (27-0, 21 KOs) his opponent is former junior welterweight standout “Vicious” Victor Ortiz (28-2-2, 22 KO’s) who will be making his welterweight debut and fighting for the welterweight title in the same night.
The winner of Andre Berto vs. Victor Ortiz could be next in line for a possible superfight showdown with the winner of Manny Pacquiao vs. Shane Mosley or against the semi-retired Floyd “Money” Mayweather.
As a co-feature to the Berto-Ortiz title bout is another championship bout between WBA junior welterweight champion Amir “King” Khan (24-1, 17 KO’s) and undefeated Irish challenger Paul “Dudey” McCloskey (22-0, 12 KO’s).
Khan trained hard in the Philippines alongside pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao and his hall of fame boxing trainer Freddie Roach for this fight with McCloskey and feels sparring with Manny Pacquiao the best southpaw in the game will help him greatly for his fight with McCloskey who is also a southpaw boxer.
If Amir Khan beats McCloskey he lines himself up for a 140-pound unification bout against undefeated American junior welterweight champion Tim Bradley.
The “East-West Showdown: Andre Berto vs. Victor Ortiz” and Amir Khan vs. Paul McCloskey championship double feature will be televised live April 16, 2011 on HBO’s World Championship Boxing starting at 9:45 PM/ET 6:45 PM/PT.
