I’ve been going back and forth in my mind over this Manny Pacquiao vs. Sugar Shane Mosley fight, and I can’t see anyway Manny beats an in shape Mosley.
Mosley is 39 going on 40, and he looks to be in the best shape of his life. He didn’t look dry or gaunt at weigh-ins and he’s been confident in his power and skill for this fight.
The style that gives Manny Pacquiao problems is that of a mover or someone who can slip and counter him with power punch combos and Shane Mosley is a power boxer, he throws counters with devastating power.
If he can sneak one in on you, the fight is over, unless you can take his best shot like Floyd Mayweather Jr. did when they fought.
I re-watched Shane Mosley’s fight with Antonio Margarito and the key difference in that fight was Mosley’s ability to grind Margarito on the inside with a lot of clinching and inside fighting. Mosley would wear Margarito down and hit him inside with flurries and then unleash a hard hook to his chin that would shock Margarito and cause him to stumble.
When Manny fought Antonio Margarito he got hit a lot and was trapped on the ropes a lot, those are things that will hurt Manny if he gets in those situations against Mosley. Manny can move but I don’t think his punches will earn Shane’s respect, Margarito kept walking forward and Manny threw hundreds of power shots on him, Shane made Margarito back up, so, you can see who has the power advantage.
Manny is fast but I don’t think he is fast enough to avoid Shane Mosley for the entire fight, the moment Mosley finds a way to trap Manny on the ropes or hit him with counters, Manny will go back to his old ways of leaping in with his left straight, like Mike Tyson said “Everyone has a plan till they get hit,” and a fighter goes back to their old habits when they have no other answer. I just see Mosley breaking Manny down and stopping him.
I like this fight. I am happy to finally see how Pacquiao does against someone who can actually box and move, instead of seeing Manny fight the same come forward fighters that he usually does.
Unlike Floyd Mayweather, I won’t be watching Lady Gaga on HBO, I will actually watch the Pacquiao vs. Mosley fight on Showtime PPV and see if Mosley has anything left and if Manny can actually deal with Shane Mosley’s style and power.
If Manny wins against Sugar Shane Mosley, I will give him all the props in the world, but no matter how hard I try to go over the fight scenarios in my head, I just don’t see Manny Pacquiao beating Mosley.
