Episode 3 of Fight Camp 360: Pacquiao vs. Mosley aired on CBS Saturday April 30th, the episode was an hour-long and went in depth about both Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao and “Sugar” Shane Mosley’s back stories growing up and how they got involved with boxing.
Manny Pacquiao grew up in one of the poorest areas in the Philippines, the majority of the people that live in there never make it out or become successful. But when Manny’s dad left the family, Manny left home as a young teenager and took up boxing to help support his mother and siblings. While training as a youngster he ran into Buboy Fernandez a childhood friend and saw him rotting away sitting on the streets doing drugs and looking hopeless, Manny with a compassionate heart took him in and took care of Buboy teaching him how to be a boxing trainer and both have been loyal friends to this day.
“Sugar” Shane Mosley grew up in Pomona, California a happy and energetic young kid, always smiling like he is today, but as a youngster he was full of energy and got interested in boxing at 8-years-old, and his father Jack Mosley a former amateur boxer himself began training him, Shane was Jack Mosley’s first pupil. During this time as an amateur is when a young Shane Mosley met the greatest pound for pound fighter in history, Sugar Ray Robinson, at one of his amateur boxing fights and Shane told the boxing legend that he will train very hard and become one of the best Sugars one of the great Sugars too and Mosley took on the moniker “Sugar”.
