Mexico’s Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (36-0-1, 26 KOs) will defend his WBC 154-lb junior middleweight title against England’s Ryan Rhodes (45-4, 31 KOs) HBO Boxing After Dark.
On March, 5, 2011, Canelo Alvarez at just 20 years old won the vacant WBC junior middleweight title against Matthew Hatton in front of a big crowd at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. On June 18 in Guadalajara, Mexico, Canelo will try to defend his belt against another tough British fighter Ryan Rhodes. This will be the second chance at a world title for the 34 year old Rhodes, he first fought for the vacant WBO middleweight title in 1997 against Otis Grant and lost a close decision.
As the HBO boxing co-feature of the evening, unbeaten super-featherweight Adrien “The Problem” Broner (20-0, 16 KOs) of Cincinnati, Ohio fights “The American Boy” Jason Litzau (28-2, 21 KOs). Broner at age 21 is one of the promising young rising stars in the sport of boxing. Broner stepped up in competition in his last fight when he faced the power punching Daniel Ponce de Leon and won a decision now he takes on another stiff test in veteran Jason Litzau. Litzau who is coming off an upset victory over Celestino Caballero is looking to hand the young champion his first loss and pull off another upset.
