Brandon “Bam Bam” Rios (27-0-1, 20 KOs) vs. Urbano Antillon (28-2, 20 KOs) has the makings of “Fight of the Year,” with both guys never taking a backwards step and always trying to press the action, fight fans will be in for a show.
Brandon Rios is the WBA lightweight title holder after knocking out Miguel Acosta for the belt. Antillon is familiar with Miguel Acosta having been knocked out by him in 2009. This will be Urbano Antillon’s third attempt at a world championship title, having come up short against Humberto Soto and Miguel Acosta. Rios and Antillon have some serious bad blood, and both are looking to take each others heads off.
The co-feature bout is a light middleweight attraction featuring newly signed Top Rank fighter and former welterweight champ Kermit Cintron (32-3-1, 28 KOs) versus Carlos Molina (18-4-2 ,6 KOs). Bob Arum has high hopes for Cintron, and even added him to the list of possible future opponents to face against mega star Manny Pacquiao.
Showtime will televise the Rios vs. Antillon and Cintron vs. Molina double header live Saturday, July 9, 2011 from the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. at 10 PM ET/PT.
Bob Arum’s Top Rank promotions will air the non-televised “Rios vs Antillon” Undercard fights for FREE via live stream on the official www.toprank.com website at 7:00 PM ET/PT. Filipino lightweight boxer Mercito Gesta and former Notre Dame “Bengal Bouts” boxing champion Mike Lee will be featured on the FREE Top Rank undercard stream.
