It’s already predictable when it comes to Floyd Mayweather Jr., he uses Manny Pacquiao’s name and gives the people the false sense of hope that he will actually fight a prime Manny Pacquiao, but instead fight someone else and then go on a vacation or spend time with family for a year or more.
According to an ESPN article, Floyd’s Uncle Jeff Mayweather said that he believes the anticipated super fight between his nephew and Manny Pacquiao will likely happen in 2013… 2013!? Yup, you read that right. Should I and other boxing fans be so shocked at this? Not really.
This is nothing new with Floyd Mayweather and his avoidance of facing Manny Pacquiao in his prime. First it was the drug testing demands, and now that Manny agreed to take the tests, something new always pops up. Floyd is clearly waiting to see how Manny looks against Juan Manuel Marquez first, if Manny looks like crap, Floyd will step up, if Manny blasts Marquez out of the water, Floyd will go on a vacation.
Floyd could have easily fought Manny Pacquiao instead of signing to fight Victor Ortiz in September, Bob Arum gave him the open invitation and expressed that there is no pressure on Floyd, and his door at Top Rank is always open for him to negotiate the fight with Pacquiao.
Don’t buy into the BS of Floyd saying “Manny Pacquiao you’re next!” That’s all show. Even if he fights Manny Pacquiao, will he be facing the fast dynamo, or will we see a slower version of the Pacman? If Floyd doesn’t fight a prime Manny Pacquiao his legacy will go down the drain because unbiased eyes can see what he is doing. Floyd knows his defense first, conservative style of boxing and lack of wear and tear will allow him to box longer in this sport than someone like Manny who likes to go toe to toe, and relies on his speed to win fights. This is why Floyd keeps going on vacation after fights because he is waiting for the right time to fight a damaged Pacman. Floyd suffers no damage in his fights, yet, he needs time to recover and rest? Manny takes more damage than Floyd and has more on his plate than Floyd does and he still finds time to satisfy the boxing fans and fight.
Look for Floyd Mayweather to finally call out Manny Pacquiao in 2015 when Pacquiao is retired and focusing on politics full time. If Manny refuses, Floyd will say, “I told you he was ducking me!”
Typical Mayweather.
