Former four-division world champion, and one of the greatest boxers of all time, Roy Jones Jr. (54-8, 40 KOs) will take on Max Alexander (14-5-2, 4 KOs) for the vacant Universal Boxing Organization™ (UBO) Inter-Continental Cruiserweight title on December 10 in Atlanta, Georgia.
Billed as Kings Of The Ring 5 – Resurrection, the fight will be promoted by KO Kings in association with RJJ Promotions and Big Play Entertainment, this fight will be the first ever UBO title fight, broadcasted live on Internet Pay-Per-View at www.ustream.tv and www.ldltv.com.
“I am excited about working with the UBO and would like to thank USA Commissioner Macke Roberts and the UBO for giving us this opportunity. Both fighters are very happy to be fighting for the UBO Inter-Continental title, and it’s going to be a great show on December 10”, said Adrian Patrick, CEO of KO Kings.
Really needing no introduction, the legendary Roy Jones Jr. won his first world title, the IBF Middleweight, in 1993 by defeating another All-Time-Great in Bernard Hopkins. In 1994 he moved up to win the IBF World Super Middleweight crown against fellow future Hall-Of-Famer James Toney, and made five successful defenses before moving up again in 1996 to win the WBC Light Heavyweight crown by beating 2003 H.O.F. inductee Mike McCallum.
In 2003 Jones made history by becoming the first former Middleweight World Champion to win a Heavyweight World championship when he outclassed John Ruiz for the WBA version in Las Vegas. In 2009 he attempted to add a world title in a fifth division, but came up short when he suffered a controversial stoppage at the hands of then IBO Cruiserweight title holder Danny Green in Australia.
Max Alexander will be challenging for his second professional title against Jones. A participant in the 2007 Contender reality series, Alexander went on to draw with Rob Calloway for the WBC Continental Americas Cruiserweight strap the following year. While he has lost five times in twenty-two outings (one No-Contest), it has been against formidable opposition and only by decision.
Kings Of The Ring 5 – Resurrection on December 10 in Atlanta, Georgia will also feature an interesting 10 round lightweight bout between undefeated Chris Howard (13-0-1, 6 KOs) and tough veteran Frankie Archuleta (27-8-1, 14 KOs), as well as undefeated prospect Brian Howard (7-0, 5 KOs) taking on big puncher Sharif Kemp (7-4, 6 KOs) at Cruiserweight.
Additional bouts include Keandre Leatherwood (9-0, 6 KOs) facing Ashantie Hendrickson (5-10-1, 3 KOs) at Light Middleweight, Heavyweight Gabe Brown against an opponent to be determined, and Beden Laurent (1-1) vs. Tristan Todd (1-0 1 KOs) in a Super Middleweight bout.
