HBO Boxing After Dark presents Nonito Donaire vs. Omar Narvaez for Nonito’s WBC/WBO bantamweight championship belts on Saturday night October 22, live from New York at the Theater in Madison Square Garden.
Bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire (26-1, 18 KOs), comes from General Santos City, Philippines the homeland of pound-4-pound king Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao and his opponent is a two time Olympian Omar Narvaez (35-0-2, 23 KOs), of Cordoba, Argentina.
The undefeated Narvaez held the WBO super flyweight title and is making his U.S. debut on HBO by moving up in weight to take on the champion Nonito Donaire who is ranked in the top 5 pound-4-pound bests boxers in the world today. Narvaez, 36, is the underdog going into this fight because he is giving up a clear size and age advantage to the younger and stronger Donaire, 28. No matter the outcome of tonight’s fight, Nonito said he is moving up to 122-pounds for his next fight.
Donaire vs. Narvaez is promoted by Top Rank, in association with Madison Square Garden, and HBO will televise the championship fight live Oct. 22, 2011 on HBO Boxing After Dark at 10:30 PM ET/PT.
