The Ultimate Fighting Championship presents UFC 137: Penn vs. Diaz on Saturday, October 29, 2011 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
UFC 137 was originally supposed to be headlined with a UFC welterweight title fight main event between current UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre versus former Strikeforce welterweight champion Nick Diaz but due to Nick Diaz failing to meet media obligations President Dana White pulled Diaz from the main event and replaced him with Carlos Condit who was originally scheduled to fight B.J. Penn on the undercard. Nick Diaz was given a second chance to fight on the card and took Condit’s place as B.J. Penn’s opponent. A few weeks later Georges St-Pierre had to withdraw from the fight due to a knee injury and Nick Diaz vs. B.J. Penn was promoted to the main event of UFC 137.
