When the Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather fight was seriously being talked about, 25 boxing experts were asked who would win if the two fought in the ring. The poll was done in 2010 and of the 25 experts 23 picked Floyd Mayweather to beat Pacquiao.
Manny Pacquiao was ranked number 1 at the time and came off his most dominant victories over Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton and Miguel Cotto, and yet the majority of boxing experts didn’t give him much of a chance versus Floyd. They are experts for reason and were only saying complimentary things about Pacquiao to the media so his emotional fans wouldn’t get enraged, but when asked who would win boxing experts never bought into the hype like many of these casual boxing fans who were praising Manny Pacquiao and insulting Floyd. Most people who like Pacquiao and actually thought he would beat Mayweather or Juan Manuel Marquez don’t know anything about boxing, they are diehard Pacquiao fans who don’t even know the difference between a southpaw and an orthodox fighter.
After Juan Manuel Marquez got robbed and exposed Manny Pacquiao as a one dimensional media created fighter, the aura of invincibility is gone and the Pacquiao fans already left his bandwagon in shame.
BoxingScene had a new poll up with several boxing experts asking them who would win if Floyd Mayweather Jr. were to fight former featherweight and super-featherweight champion Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero on May 5, 2012, and Guerrero had more experts giving him a shot to beat Mayweather than they did Manny Pacquiao and take into consideration that Robert Guerrero isn’t even in the top 10 pound-4-pound list! The final tally was 14 experts in favor of Floyd Mayweather, 6 in favor of Robert Guerrero, and 2 experts felt it was a Pick-em fight, meaning the fight could go either way. Compare that to the 23 of 25 boxing experts who favored Mayweather over Pacquiao.
This just further shows how overrated Manny Pacquiao is, if a guy like Guerrero who isn’t even ranked in the top 10 pound-4-pound list and hasn’t even fought at 147-pounds yet has a better chance against Mayweather than Manny, that just shows what boxing experts really thought about Manny Pacquiao’s boxing skills in the first place.
Even many of the Filipinos were saying Marquez beat Pacquiao! A lot of them were so ashamed that they even said Mayweather would beat him easily. Pacman fans were calling me a hater, but after the Marquez robbery and the boxing experts all sharing my same view, I now feel vindicated!
