Dear Mr. Bob Arum,
Last week you announced there will be no mega fight between Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather Jr. and Manny ‘Pacman’ Pacquiao and your right! But it isn’t because Mayweather fears either Pacman or his huge right hand. You don’t beat 17 current and former world champions and then become afraid of right hands over night. The truth is because Mayweather isn’t a Top Rank fighter.
Over the last two years the only fighters who have been successful in landing fights with Pacman happen to be signed under the Top Rank banner. Miguel Cotto, Joshua Clottey, Antonio Margarito all Top Rank fighters. This is why both Shane Mosley and Juan Manual Marquez left Golden Boy Promotions and signed with Top Rank to land a fight with Manny Pacquiao.
So in order for Mayweather to punch his golden ticket he must sign with Top Rank. But, that is where the problem lies because unless you’ve been living under a rock you know Money Mayweather is the biggest pay per view attraction in boxing today. Sure you can claim Pacman is the more exciting fighter but that hasn’t equaled into more pay per view buys. Since Oscar De La Hoya, Mayweather has over taken the pay per view crown. Bob, numbers don’t lie, people do.
So why continue to hustle the American public with this bait and switch pony show? After every fight it’s the same old song and dance. Umm….were going to get with the Money Team and try to make this thing happen yet your actions say otherwise. Is this one of those situations where yesterday you were lying but today you’re telling the truth? Or maybe it’s just an honest mistake that you confused Marquez’s number with Mayweather’s.
All I know is we hope you don’t get Mayweather’s number mixed up with Desert Storms (Tim Bradley). The American public does not care about that fight and if you ignore us it will only affect your bottom line. Our message is clear; we are tired of watching him fight the Top Rank fighter of the month. So hate it or love it Bob, there is only one fight we want to see and that’s Floyd Mayweather Jr. versus Manny Pacquiao!
So I beg you please put your ego away and step out of the way of the biggest fight in boxing. The problem isn’t Mayweather is scared or Pacquiao is a steroid cheat. The problem is you, it’s always been you. You’re a business man, I completely understand, your simply allowing your stock to rise to its highest point before you decide to cash out. There’s no shame in that! Unfortunately that time is now and it’s put up or shut up time.
No more deadlines.
No more blood testing disputes.
Take your time and get it done. Period.
No excuses.
Just carve it in stone.
