I don’t blame Bob Arum for protecting Manny Pacquiao from the ass whooping Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr. would give him in the ring.
Arum’s unwillingness to make this mega-fight shows that he has no confidence in the Pacman — Bob Arum knows what’s up — and he promoted Floyd Mayweather in the past and protected Miguel Cotto from fighting him when he had both guys in his stable.
Floyd is one of the bravest fighters in the game. He talks the most trash but he backs it up with his superb technical fighting ability. The sweet science is the name of the game, and Manny Pacquiao doesn’t understand the science behind boxing.
Throwing wild punches and getting hit with hundreds of punches to the face is not boxing, that is called bar room brawling for dumb drunk guys. Anyone can do what Manny Pacquiao does in the ring if you match a guy like that with the right opponents long enough you can fool people into believing that guy is a bad ass boxer when he really isn’t.
The real bad ass here is Floyd “Money” Mayweather, the biggest star in boxing and the greatest boxer of all time. If the Pacquiao fight did happen it will be the worst beating Manny ever had in his boxing career because Floyd is tired of the ignorant Pac fans talking thrash behind a computer and he is going to take out all his frustration on the Pacman.
Let’s remember when Floyd fought Diego Corrales and everyone thought the power punching Corrales would destroy Floyd, but instead it was Floyd who destroyed Corrales and was knocking him down all over the place. How about when people thought Arturo Gatti would be able to pressure Floyd and punish him to the body and stop him? What was the outcome of that fight again? Oh yeah, Floyd Mayweather put on one of the most gruesome one sided beat downs in boxing history.
What’s even more impressive is both Diego Corrales and Arturo Gatti (May they rest in Peace) were more skilled boxers than Manny Pacquiao is today. Imagine what would happen if a one dimensional fighter like the Pacman would step in the ring against Floyd — it would be one of the biggest mismatches in big fight history.
Like I said, I don’t blame Bob Arum for protecting Manny Pacquiao from Floyd Mayweather, I wouldn’t wish that type of beating on any man, and Pacquiao seems like a nice guy so he should be grateful that Arum doesn’t want to put him in with Money Mayweather.
