ShoBox: The New Generation on Showtime presents a world championship super bantamweight fight between WBA champion Rico Ramos (20-0, 11 KOs) and Olympic boxing gold medalist from Cuba Guillermo “El Chacal” Rigondeaux (8-0, 6 KOs) live from the Palms Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The 24-year-old Rico Ramos hails from Pico Rivera, California and won the WBA 122-pound title belt when he knocked out the Japanese champion Akifumi Shimoda. Although, Ramos has a few more fights than Rigondeaux, he is still considered the more inexperienced underdog due to the 31-year-old Rigondeaux’s Olympic and amateur boxing pedigree. This is Ramos’ first title defense and many boxing fans commend him for taking on Guillermo Rigondeaux arguably the best boxer in the division and one of the pound for pound most skilled instead of fighting a tune-up fight like many young champions tend to do to hold onto the belt after they just won it.
Watch ShoBox: Rico Ramos vs. Guillermo Rigondeaux live on Friday, January 20, 2012 at 11PM ET/PT on Showtime.
